Area of Ministry: Bright Lights
What is the Goal:
To connect children to Jesus Christ and help them grow in a caring community by providing a fun, safe and interactive environment where children learn what following Jesus means today for them.
What are the opportunities?
We’re always looking for individuals willing to serve as teachers or assistant teachers for children’s church. We believe the teacher’s job is to teach kids about God, the way to heaven, and how to love others.
Under the teacher’s direction, teachers and assistants will work together to complete the weekly lesson plan which includes participating in praise and worship, teaching the lesson and assisting students in classroom activities, crafts and games.
In order to achieve this, teachers will be provided with the lesson plan, all necessary equipment and any supplies needed for the lesson. Equipment will be set up for the teachers prior to the start of the lesson unless otherwise discussed. Teachers can expect the support, assistance and guidance from the director of the Children’s Ministry- Amy Sampson.
Teachers will be trained on how to use the Planning Center Online (PCO) where they will have access to their schedules, lesson plans and music. They will also receive training on any equipment such as DVD players, projectors and/or laptops.
Teachers and assistants are expected to adequately prepare for the lesson ahead of time. At least one teacher should plan to be in the classroom before the kids arrive. Teachers and assistants are responsible for leaving the classroom in order before leaving church.
As someone who is nurturing children in their faith, it’s vital that teachers take care of their own spirituality, spending time in scripture, prayer and worship. Additionally, teachers should be team players, flexible, open to learning, have a positive attitude, love working with children and know how to have fun, laugh and enjoy life.
2-4 hours a week including preparation time for Sunday lessons; extra time TBD for field trips or extra activities held at church for the kids.
What else is expected in this ministry?
Additional expectations such as working with kids, celebrating birthdays etc. will be provided.
Lastly, parents will want to know that not only are their children being cared for spiritually, but also that they are in a safe environment. As such, those serving in any children’s ministry program may be required to provide a current police background check.
